UNITED STATES SENTENCING COMMISSION
The Commission will hire 1Ls and 2Ls for paid ($18.26 - $24.82/hr) 2011 Summer Law Student Internships. Interns will conduct general legal research relating to criminal law and procedure and the application of the federal sentencing guidelines; monitor and analyze federal sentencing laws and appellate court decisions; support the Office of General Counsel or the Office of Education and Sentencing Practice and Sentencing Commissioners, and assist with special projects and general legal issues relating to the operation of an independent judicial agency.
The Commission is an independent agency in the judicial branch of government. Its principal purposes are: (1) to establish sentencing policies and practices for the federal courts, including guidelines regarding the appropriate form and severity of punishment for offenders; (2) to assist Congress and the executive branch in developing effective and efficient crime policy; and (3) to collect, analyze, and distribute a broad array of information on federal crime and sentencing issues, serving as an information resource for Congress, the executive branch, the courts, criminal justice practitioners, the academic community, and the public.
PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS:
Must be a current student in good academic standing and possess excellent writing skills.
