Facebook, MySpace and Other Networking Sites

Facebook, MySpace and others are very popular sites and many of you have accounts on at least one or both, and perhaps other networking/social media sites. These sites can be great networking and marketing tools. They have the power to open up many doors, but they can also close many doors.

Have you checked your profile pages recently? You can bet employers will. What might be on your pages that you don’t want your interviewer or future employer to see? Changing the privacy settings for your accounts is encouraged, as described below. But remember, these protections might not be 100% effective because firms and organizations employ lots of people who could be friends of friends and might be able to see more on your pages than you think. Just as you are researching them, they are researching you.

Check out the Privacy Guides for Facebook and MySpace.
